Social Workers and psychologists looking for work in Australia or overseas should complete the online registration form. Your amicus consultant will then contact you to discuss your employment options and to answer any questions you may have.
Candidates for Trainee Train Driver roles should apply on line during the advertised period.

What’s the process for working overseas?
If you wish to find work in the UK then you will first need to make contact with amicus Australia by completing the online registration form. A consultant will then contact you to discuss your UK plans and assess your eligibility to work in the UK. This will include assistance with:
- Completion of all necessary documentation
- Application for a working visa
- Registration as a social worker in the UK
- Ensuring that you are interview ready by the time you leave for the UK
- Writing a CV for the UK and contacting referees to get written references.
- Information about the UK social care system and accommodation options.
Before you leave Australia you will be contacted by one of our UK consultants to arrange a time and place to meet when you arrive.
What help do I get when I go overseas?
- A personal introduction meeting with one of our UK recruitment consultants to discuss the process of finding your first UK position and to be briefed on the UK social services teams, interviews, bank accounts etc.
- Advice on conditions regarding refund of flight costs
- Ongoing advice and support throughout your UK stay
- Regular updates to keep you informed of any suitable job vacancies as well as amicus benefits and training opportunities
- Maps of bus, tube and rail transport throughout the UK
- Assistance in getting a UK bank account , mobile number and your National Insurance Number
- Invitations to regular social events (including the amicus annual Thames Boat Party)
- Training in UK laws, legislation and international techniques
- On-going social work professional development programs
- Assistance with arranging British Police Check and annual renewal where applicable
- Continued communication and support throughout your placement to make sure that all of your needs are met.
What is the process of getting from the UK to Australia?
You will need to complete a registration form. You will then be contacted by one of our recruitment staff as to your preferences/experience. We will attempt to match you to current vacancies for an interview. If successful in the interview you will move to reference checking and police checks. After this the visa process will commence.
How long does it take to get a job in the UK/NZ?
The time to secure a position will vary according to the job market at the time and the field in which you are looking for work. On average it takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks to place a candidate.
